Give Back a Smile (GBAS) is a program of the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry Charitable Foundation (AACDCF). AACDCF dentists provide pro bono cosmetic dental treatment to survivors of domestic violence.
Although domestic violence affects one in four women, it is a silent epidemic that is cross-gender, cross-cultural, and income defiant. It can happen to any of your family members or neighbors—male or female.
On May 27, 1999, the Give Back a Smile program was launched. Dental professionals—including AACD dentists and laboratory technicians—volunteer their time and expertise for the program. Since its launch, the program has completed more than 1,600 pro bono domestic abuse cases for a treatment value of more than $16 million. Currently more than 400 applicants throughout the United States are receiving dental care through Give Back a Smile.
If you’re a dental professional and would like to participate in the program, visit the GBAS volunteer page, call 800.773.GBAS (4227), or send an e-mail to givebackasmile@aacd.com. You are also welcome to donate by visiting the GBAS donations page or sending donations to:
Give Back a Smile
402 West Wilson Street
Madison, WI 53703
While the treating dentist provides these services pro bono, donations are needed to cover ancillary costs, like travel for recipients, or laboratory or specialist fees when a participating dental laboratory or needed specialist isn’t available for the needed reconstructive dental work.
